CoolSculpting: Cellulite Treatments Without Surgery
Searching for a non-surgical cellulite treatment that works? CoolSculpting cellulite treatments can be an excellent option for many people. Here are some quick facts about cellulite and a look at the CoolSculpting procedure.
What Is Cellulite?
We all know what it looks like, it’s those little dimples of fat that we find on our legs, butt and stomach area. Cellulite is simply what occurs when fat deposits start to push through the layers of connective tissue under the skin.
No one actually understands why cellulite develops. In the past, people believed that weight gain was the culprit, but while gaining weight may cause some people to develop cellulite, plenty of fit people that follow comprehensive daily fitness programs also encounter this “cottage cheese” skin.
The majority of people who encounter cellulite are women, and it’s likely that the aging process and hormonal changes are factors in the development of cellulite although young, fit women may have cellulite, as well. It’s also likely that genes may play a role. If your mom has cellulite, it could happen to you, as well.
The good news is that cellulite not a dangerous condition; it’s simply a cosmetic issue. In some cases a healthy diet and exercise can reduce the appearance of cellulite. Additionally, drinking enough water also may help keep your skin strong and healthy and reduce the appearance of cellulite.
There some great non-surgical cellulite treatments available. For instance, with CoolSculpting, cellulite can be greatly reduced and we can provide this service in our office.
What Is The CoolSculpting Cellulite Treatment?
CoolSculpting is trademarked name for the process of cryolipolysis, which is quite a mouthful, to say the least. Your body has many types of cells, and fat cells are particularly susceptible to the cold.
With CoolSculpting cellulite treatment, we essentially freeze fat cells and once these cells have died, the body will simply expel them over the course of a few months. During the process, other types of tissues will not be harmed as they don’t have the same response to cold as fat cells.
CoolSculpting can be used to reduce fat and cellulite in several key areas of the body. This includes the flanks & abdomen, the outer thighs, inner thighs, the distal thigh (just above the knee), the upper arms, under the buttocks and under the chin.
CoolSculpting typically provides about a 25% reduction in the appearance of cellulite. Keep in mind that it takes a few weeks to see the results because your body is working to eliminate those fat cells.
Usually you can expect to see some changes around the three-week mark and by two months, there should be noticeable improvement. Skin should continue to improve for up to six months after the procedure and the results should be permanent, although weight gain in the treated areas can minimize your results.
The Ideal Candidate – While CoolSculpting does eliminate fat cells, it is not considered a weight-loss treatment, therefore, we recommend CoolSculpting for women and men that are fairly fit but have areas of fat/cellulite that just don’t seem to go way with further exercise or dietary changes.
CoolSculpting takes about 45 minutes to an hour to complete, but can take longer if we are treating several areas. We begin by applying a gel pad to the area we will be targeting, such as the abdomen. This pad numbs and protects the skin. Then we place a vacuum applicator onto the pad and let it work its magic.
Typically, CoolSculpting is not painful, although you may experience some tingling, pinching and stinging as first before the numbing takes effect. Most of our patients simply relax and read a book, scroll through their phones or even work on a laptop during the procedure.
Once the procedure has ended, most patients are able to leave immediately and resume their normal activities. Occasionally, there can be some side effects such as redness, mild swelling, tingling and tenderness, etc. These side effects usually resolve with a few days or weeks.
In addition to CoolSculpting, we have several other non-surgical procedures you may want to consider such as ThermiSmooth, which also can reduce the appearance of cellulite temporarily.
